Personalized education, test prep, and academic enrichment.
I strive to make learning fun, engaging, and long-lasting. You can count on me to provide the support and guidance you need to excel in your studies. Whether it's mastering a difficult concept or preparing for a big test, I've got you covered. Together, we can unlock your full potential and achieve academic success.
I work on ACT/SAT prep, reading comprehension, basic math to calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, writing, organization, executive function, goal setting, academic motivation vs. discipline, college essays, academic coaching, homeschooling curriculum and student advocacy.
Are you feeling bored with your class? I will gladly construct enrichment activities to find enjoyment in even the most mundane of topics. Just want to go further and faster than the pace of your current class? I can help you accelerate your learning.
Outside of traditional academics I can also provide a world class education in self defense, snowboarding, competitive gaming (primarily Magic: the Gathering and Go), or lead an engaging family game night!
About Matt:
Matt’s teaching journey started in 1999 with an opportunitstic job as a snowboard instructor. It was a formative experience and remains a key theme of the educational approach. Matt would go on to finish a Bachelor of Science in Adolescent Education and Biology from the SUNY college at Fredonia and then begin a career working with various schools in the Western New York area. Eventually settling with the Upward Bound Program, where Matt worked as Academic Coordinator for 7 years, before moving to Western North Carolina. In 2015 Matt would embark out of the classroom and into private tutoring with a focus on academic enrichment in math and science. Drawing from experience tutoring math and science at E.C.C., SUNY Fredonia, and Upward Bound’s SAT/ACT prep component, Matt was quickly recognized in the Asheville area as a valuable resource across the secondary education landscape.
Currently, Matt is working with private tutoring clients, nearing the highest level of certification through the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), actively competing in Magic: the Gathering tournaments, volunteering, and most importantly parenting with his wife Liz; their two children, Aspen and Sylvan.
